Overview

Continental ARS 548 RDI 3D/4D Radar Sensor for Long-Range Object Detection and Monitoring

The Continental ARS 548 RDI is a 77 GHz 3D/4D long-range radar sensor designed to measure object distance, relative speed, azimuth angle, and elevation angle within a single measurement cycle. Using pulse compression with stepped frequency modulation, the sensor provides improved range resolution throughout its field of view. It supports a standard distance measurement range of up to 301 m, with extended-range configurations possible for suitable applications. The ARS 548 RDI provides target information through its Radar Detection Interface (RDI), supporting detailed environmental perception and object detection. Its high-resolution angular measurements help distinguish objects and determine their positions in the surrounding environment. Typical applications include collision warning, long-range area monitoring, object classification, height measurement, and detection in demanding operating environments. The sensor uses digital beamforming with 192 virtual antennas and provides a BroadR-Reach Ethernet interface operating at 100 Mbit/s. Its rugged construction, wide operating temperature range, and resistance to dust and high-pressure water cleaning support deployment in demanding environments. The ARS 548 RDI also supports configurable mounting orientation and an extended measurement range, making it suitable for advanced sensing systems requiring detailed object-level radar data. Its combination of distance, velocity, azimuth, and elevation measurements provides useful environmental information for intelligent monitoring and autonomous system applications.
